The mock trial is a competition that will provide students with the opportunity to simulate a real trial. It is an event that allows students to utilize their classroom learning and apply it in a real-world context. Students will prepare arguments for both sides of a fact scenario (plaintiff and defence) and compete against each other in teams representing either side of the case. The teams will present the cases and their arguments to judges, who will score them and use these scores to determine the winner of the round. This event consists of two rounds with the two highest-scoring teams competing in an additional round. This event provides students with the ability to learn fundamental skills within the legal field such as critical thinking, public speaking, and the ability to form a persuasive and cohesive argument under time pressure.
